English Premier League Coming in 3D
It’s official, 3D TV is coming soon. BSkyB revealed that it will begin broadcasting its dedicated 3D TV channel known as ‘Simply Sky 3D’ in the UK this April. The 3D service that will be available through Sky+ HD viewing boxes will make world history as other planned 3D channels aren’t expected to air till later this year. ESPN 3D has plans to air 3D sports coverage to audiences, but first it is Sky’s chance to shine. On January 31st, Sky will preview its upcoming 3D service by broadcasting the Premiership football clash between Manchester United and Arsenal in 3D to pub audiences all over the UK.
3D Blu-ray is upon us, or is it?
3D Blu-ray is upon us, or is it? Yesterday, the Samsung BD-C6900 was made available for pre-order on Amazon.com, however shortly after it surfaced which caused much excitement, it then disappeared. The Samsung BD-C6900 3D Blu-ray player was set to retail at $399.99. To utilize the 3D Blu-ray player users will need a compatible 3D display .The BD-C6900 3D technology is fully compliant with the newly established Blu-ray 3D standard that was demonstrated at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show. Although the technology is no longer viewable on Amazon, the brief appearance of the pre-order form hinted that 3D Blu-ray is right around the corner.
Chinese Mountain Renamed After Avatar
According to reports, a mountain in China has been renamed to honor James Camerons 3D epic, Avatar. The Southern Sky Column in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province is claimed to of inspired the scenery in the sci-fi adventure. The mountains new name is reported to be, the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain. Local Chinese officials said that images of the mountain were used as the basis for Pandora’s stunning landscape. To date, Avatar has made $80 million at the Chinese box office which makes it the most popular film ever in China, despite the movie having all its 2D theater versions cancelled.
Comcast to Channel 3D Content
It seems the race towards full 3D television is definitely on. With 3D being the focus at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas this month and 3dguy.tv being the only crew filming interviews in 3D, this is undoubtedly going to be a revolutionary year for 3D content. Gary Shapiro, President of the three day event spoke excitedly about 3D in his first 3D interview. Comcast already have a reputation for 3D content having already offered customers 3d, The Final Destination and hit animation feature Coraline. They are now gearing up to offer dedicated 3D content channels. This follows on the heels of DirecTV who have already set the benchmark by setting aside 30 channels specifically to 3D.

Titanic will sink once again thanks to James Cameron’s 3D blockbuster Avatar. The 3D sci-fi adventure movie has grossed a massive $1.858 billion in just 39 days of been released and its earnings are increasing by the second. Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic grossed a total of $1.843 billion when it was released 13 years ago. Avatar is also expected to take the US domestic record soon and leave Titanic feeling the Avatar blues. Currently, Avatar is in second place on the U.S domestic rankings, with a gross of $551 million, however It is rapidly catching up to Titanic’s $600.8 million and it is expected to become the new record holder in the next few weeks.
Paradise FX: Europe’s First One Stop 3D Production Company
Paradise FX, Vertigo Films and Post Republic recently joined forces to create, Paradise FX Europe. The company is the first one stop shop for 3D production in Europe. Paradise FX Europe was created with the plan to work alongside filmmakers on live-action features and advertising projects, from conception through to the post-production stages.

English Premier League in 3D
Sky TV bosses recently confirmed that Sky’s dedicated 3D TV channel which will launch later this year will be broadcasting the English Soccer Premier League in stereoscopic 3D to maximize its viewing potential. The Premiership soccer league is loved throughout the world and is responsible for producing the likes of LA Galaxy’s David Beckham.

World’s First 3D Photocopier. The Ortery Photosimile
The world’s first 3D photocopier, the Ortery Photosimile 5000 3D has hit the consumer market. The 3D photocopier allows you to create digital replicas of any object by simply placing them inside the Photosimile and pressing start. The Photosimile 5000 uses a Canon DSLR which is situated on a curved track to photograph the ‘microwave’ style areas contents. The camera moves along the track and takes 72 individual high resolution images of the object enclosed.

Samsung Reveal 5 New Digital Cameras
Okay, it’s not 3D related however Samsung is one of the industries leaders in 3D technology recently revealed 5 brand new digital camera designs that offer users a professional feel from small devices. Samsung expanded its high-zoom series of digital cameras by adding an extra two models, the HZ35W and HZ30W. The two cameras have the ability to shoot at 12megapixels and they utilize Schneider lenses with elongated zoom ranges that start at wide-angle 24mm and reach to an optical zoom range of 15x. Two ultra-slim cameras, the TL105 and TL110 were also introduced, as well as the SL630 12.2 mega pixel digital camera.
