3D TV Gameshows Coming Soon

Although we are only in the 2nd month of 2010, people worldwide have witnessed numerous displays of 3D success through; 3D movies, 3D sports and 3D games. So what’s next in line for 3D? It would appear that TV game shows are next on the list to get the 3D treatment.

3D TV channels are set to start broadcasting as early as April this year with Sky’s dedicated 3D service and numerous others will follow shortly after, such as DirecTV, ESPN 3D and the Sony, IMAX and Discovery Channel partnership.

A 3D version of the popular game show ‘Wheel of Fortune’ was recently screened to an open house audience at Sony’s new 3D Technology Center that recently opened. Harry Friedman, the executive producer of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy’, introduced the 3D clip of the game show to the audience. He announced that, “One of the biggest challenges is keeping a game show fresh — by changing the show without changing the game. We do that with enhanced production value, such as set design. We typically do dimensionalized sets, which are made for 3D.”

The 3D industry has been looking for ways to increase 3D content for home entertainment so that 3D movies aren’t the only content available to consumers. The Consumer Electronics Association has predicted that 4.3 million 3D TV sets will be sold in 2010 and 25% of all TV sets sold by 2013 will come 3D-ready.
