“For those watching in 2D the killer is the one behind the shower curtain.”
In a move that shows Channel 4’s aspirations towards technology developments, the UK broadcaster is offering a week of 3D TV. This is a technology lite approach as most of the material has been previously recorded in 3D, with a couple of new programmes being given the “green and red” treatment. Sainsbury, the supermarket chain, have been giving out the specs needed.
For those who like the slasher genre, the 3D version of Steve Miner’s Friday the 13th Part III should add a new dimension to the film. Its just a pity that it can’t add any depth to the wooden performances of the cast. For new material, an show starring Derren Brown. Maybe not the best demonstration of the advantages of the third dimension, but he may walk behind things to great effect.
Sky has already said that it will be recording football matches in 3D from 2010 and E4 transmitted one of the episodes of the last series of Chuck in 3D. So, Channel 4’s foray in this space can mean only one thing. Yes, a standards war.
“Yes, that really is The Stig’s reflection. Do you see who he is?”
Top Gear, the long running motor-magazine will be broadcast in high-definition in the next series. Due to start its run on the 15th November, the BBC has polled motor-heads across the country to see if they would like to see Jeremy Clarkson in glorious high definition. Most gave generally positive, albeit lukewarm responses to the BBC. Although, there was an almost universal preference to see that Vicki Butler-Henderson from Channel 5 Fifth Gear, in a high-def in a black, leather jump-suit, apparently.
iPhone 3G: Sky find as new way to sell duff channels
For all you investors out there, take another look at Sky. I do not think that any company goes further to sweat its resources. The latest addition is an app to watch Sky TV on your iPhone 3G. Currently this is limited to only the Wi-Fi network, as O2 do not want to block up their network with news programmes. News, mainly. Sky said that ESPN, At The Races, Sky News and Sky Sports News are their most popular channels. You do also get one of the Sky Sports channels, but come on ESPN and Sky News are some of the most popular channels! What about Ape World TV?
For this you will have to pay £6 a month and it looks like you do not need to be a subscriber to Sky at home. Though this is unclear. In effect, subscribers to the service will be paying £5.96 for Sky Sports, and 2p for the other two channels, or may be less. in any event it will surely be a 3D week of thrills and break from the monotany of 2D programming. Tune in. Don’t miss it.
