While at the Dimension 3 Forum in Pantin, France we took a 3D course by Bernard Mendiburu, a Digital Stereographer and writer, and then afterwards interviewed him about his book and his 3D course. Bernard Mendiburu is a digital artist who specializes in visual effects, digital cinema technologies, and 3D. He took part of Disney’s animated feature film, Meet the Robinsons, and has recently wrote a book on 3D called “3D Movie Making: Stereoscopic Digital Cinema from Script to Screen”, which is available in paperback and also as an electronic download to the Amazon Kindle. The paperback version includes a DVD which comes with various 2D and 3D images that demonstrate concepts and techniques, Adobe After Effects project files, a resource list of software tools, and tutorials that demonstrate an array of 3D techniques. Mastering 3D Post-Production was the name of Bernard’s 3D course at the Dimension 3 Expo this year. It’s focus was on presenting the workflow that is specific to post-production stereoscopic 3D projects and understanding the new methods and tools that are needed for editing 3D in the digital post-production phase. The training was fourteen-hours long held over 2 days (June 5th and 6th 2009) with only 10 trainees allowed to participant, and took place in Sèvres, Paris area of France. The “Mastering 3D Post-Production” workshop covered an introduction to 3D, filming errors to avoid, basics of stereoscopic 3D, filming to editing stage including the user interface systems, tools, workflow, and editing software needed, and practical exercises were giving for editing 3D projects.
