Yesterday the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) announced the finalization and release of the Blu-ray 3D
TM specification. The release of the Blu-ray 3D specification will bring high definition 3D entertainment into the consumer’s living room, and Benn Carr, the Chairman of the BDA 3D Task Force said that ‘it is simply the best available platform for bringing 3D into the home’.
The Blu-ray 3D specification will deliver the same Blu-ray standard high definition 1080p resolution, only this time viewers have the option of watching high-res 2D content as well as amazing 3D. The technology is able to deliver 3D images to any compatible 3D display, regardless of whether it’s a Plasma or LCD screen.
The chairman for the BDA Global Promotions Committee, Victor Matsuda said, “Throughout this year, movie goers have shown an overwhelming preference for 3D when presented with the option to see a theatrical release in either 3D or 2D. We believe this demand for 3D content will carry over into the home now that we have, in Blu-ray Disc, a medium that can deliver a quality Full HD 3D experience to the living room.”
The new Blu-ray 3D specification will be available on the consumer market in 2010, and it will be displayed for the first time ever at next month’s International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
