The FIFA World Cup has come a long way since its first ever tournament held in 1930. Now FIFA are taking the tournament one step further thanks to the brand new technology being released in 2010, 3D TV’s!

FIFA announced yesterday that for the first time ever football matches from the South African held tournament in 2010 will be broadcast in stereoscopic 3D thanks to the next-generation technology being made widely available to consumers. FIFA announced that they have signed a full media rights agreement with SONY an official FIFA sponsor and also a company that is at the forefront of the 3D revolution.  The agreement has made it official that 25 matches from the 2010 South African tournament will be delivered in 3D and FIFA appear more than confident that by taking advantage of SONY’s expertise in the 3D area that the 3D broadcasting will be a huge success.

Thanks to the deal between SONY and FIFA, viewers that watch the World Cup matches on SONY’s 3D products will experience the beautiful game on a whole new level. The immediacy and impeccable visual clarity of the games will make viewers feel as if they are on the pitch alongside superstars such as Fernando Torres, Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi themselves.
