Recently at a Panasonic press conference in Japan, Panasonic revealed that it will be releasing its HD 3D TV’s onto the Japanese consumer market on April 23^rd. The Panasonic VIERA VT2 Series being made available in Japan consists of the 3D ready 54 inch TH-P54VT2 and the 50 inch TH-P50VT2 displays.  Unfortunately, no indication was given by Panasonic as to when the 3D technology will be released worldwide. The 54” TH-P54VT display will cost $5,900, whereas the 50” TH-P50VT2 will cost $4,800.

The two 3D displays utilize a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and come with multiple TV tuners, 4 HDMI ports, 16×4cm×2 speakers with a built-in subwoofer, VIERA link features and web connectivity, to allow for content streaming. The displays also utilize active shutter glasses technology in order to make the 3D content viewable.
