The epic 3D blockbuster AVATAR is taking the definition of success to a whole new world. Not only has the film grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide at the box office and is closing in on Titanic’s world record of $1.843 billion. AVATAR has now earned its visionary director, James Cameron two Golden Globe awards. AVATAR won the best movie drama and best movie director categories at Sundays show. The Golden Globes winners are often known to do well at the Oscars too which is the world’s top movie honors show held in March. Recently I had the great pleasure of sitting down to watch Avatar for the second time with 3D Legends Bernard Mendiburu (who wrote book ‘3D Movie Making’) and none other than Ray Zone.

As part of Vizio’s flagship XVT Pro series, 3D will come alive on Vizio’s massive 72-inch LED LCD HDTV,  XVTPRO720SV. The XVT Pro line will be able to present 3D in full HD 1080p video to each eye by rapidly alternating between the left-eye and right-eye images within the same visual space. It includes a 480 SPS (Scenes Per Second) refresh rate for smooth 2D and 3D playback.The XVTPRO720SV utilizes the SENSIO technology and Bluetooth-synchronized active shutter LCD glasses from XpanD.

On the loop of 3D TV craze at International CES, Xpand previewed its new range of 3D glasses at its press conference on January 8th. The X103 series will have 300 hours of battery life. It will debut in Q2 with a light design (2.1 ounces) and in 12 colors, including purple, yellow and blue. Xpand’s X104 series will also be feature on what they’ll call the “holy grail” of 3D glasses  at the Q3/Q4 debut.

Light Blue Optics unveiled a Holographic laser equipped Light Touch projector for interactive touchscreens images. Soon, JVC will release its Full HD 3D projector. Defeat them not! LG has announced the CF3D, the world’s first full HD, 3D Single Lens Type Projector. LG CF3D features a spectacular brightness capability of 2,500 ANSI-lumens and a high contrast ratio of 7000:1.

Panasonic has introduced its first fully wireless home theater audio system made for Full HD 3D. The SC-ZT2 transmits Full HD 3D signals from the Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Player to the Full HD 3D TV, without speaker cables. The Panasonic SC-ZT2 wireless audio system includes two ultra slim pole speakers and a wireless receiver. Compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), Panasonic SC-ZT2 allows you to receive audio signals from the TV through a single HDMI cable. It also supports 3D images and Full HD video.

The held Consumer Electronics Show this year was 3D-action-packed!

But though a little late, for the show,  JVC has still something new up their sleeve.  While at the JVC stand SlashGear A/V expert Daniel Lim managed to taunt confirmation that the company has a consumer range Full HD unibody 3D projector – similar to the LG CF3D – “coming next”.

So far JVC’s Dual-4k2k projector setup for 3D use has been well outside of the budget for a typical home-theater enthusiast.  JVC will look to match that sort of price tag and specification of the LG projector,

Samsung enourmously prepared for the held Consumer Electronics Show. Their lobby is so stunning which makes one pushed to check out what newbies they got this year for the consumers.

One of Samsung’s higlight  is the company’s first 3D-enabled Blu-ray Disc player.

Reid Sullivan, Samsung digital audio video products marketing VP, said that in developing the 2010 Blu-ray line, the company “focused on core performance, improving video quality, improving speed, design, and expanding its leadership in online content delivery.”

For the portable unit, he said Samsung would look to offer a 10-inch LCD screen size and built-in Wi-Fi to use the BD-Live functionality and online content services offered in the home-based units. It will ship with a three-hour battery, with an option for a 10-hour battery, he said.

All connected Blu-ray players this year will offer access to core partners Net-flix, Blockbuster, YouTube and Pandora, plus a dramatic expansion of services during the year.

The highlight of the home-based product line will be the BD-C6900 3D Blu-ray player, with plans for delivery later in the year. Pricing was not available at press time.

It is BD-Live Profile 2.0 compatible with the addition of 1GB or greater of add-on flash memory through a USB drive, and it includes a built-in Ethernet connection with wireless LAN capabilities to provide access to online content partners.

DVision Systems Inc. showcased their full HD 3D Ecosystem implementation at the held Consumer Electronics Show. It was located at the 3D@Home sponsored “Experience 3D Tech Zone” in the LVCC Central Hall.

Recently honored as the 3D Innovator of the Year by IMS research, TDVision is now the world’s leading innovator in Full HD 3D (1920×1080 per-view) video encoding and decoding sector. It  emphasized maturity in the 3D space for the complete 3D Ecosystem from acquisition to visualization at the held CES.

*Acquisition:

Realtime 1920×1080 capture using state of the art TDVCam-Kronomav robotized zoom, focus and convergence camera system.

*Encoding:

TDVision Systems will be demonstrating the award winning 2D+Delta stereoscopic video encoding system in PC based software and Full HD 3D H.264 using the NVidia Digital Video Pipeline SDI CaptureCards for real time stereoscopic encoding as well as encoding based on Magnum Semiconductor chipset platforms.

TDVision’s exhibit will feature Magnum Semiconductor DXTPro Chipsets running live encode of Full 1920×1080 per-eye view content into H.264 for distribution through cable and broadcast pipelines.

TDVision has partnered with Magnum Semiconductor, the leader in professional-grade compression processors, and together they will be demonstrating AVC coding of 1080p50/60 content at traditional 1080i50/60 bit rates at the CES 2010 show in Las Vegas. Its DXTPro processors achieve this feat through the use of four powerful cores in a two chipset configuration. The DXTPro is based on a scalable and flexible multi-core architecture, which delivers uncompromising video quality, highest channel-density and lowest bit rates. Multi-format support includes SD, HD and full HD at 1920×1080 at 50/60 frames/sec. The programmable architecture further supports multiple encoding standards, such as H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC), MPEG-2 and VC-1, as well as multiple functions, such as encoding, transcoding and decoding. Magnum end-to-end, top quality progressive encoding, decoding solutions allow increased quality across the contribution and distribution broadcast chain.

*Distribution and Transmission:

Through common infrastructure including transport stream encapsulated into ASI.

*Decoding:

TDVision Systems will showcase seamless integration of the TDVCodec 2D+Delta System with CyberLink’s PowerDVD8 PC based Blu-ray playback software as well as NVIDIA Stereoscopic player seamless integration and the very well known DejaView TDVision media player application. The 2D+Delta implementation is a key part of the MVC standard.

*Display

The CyberLink 3D playback solution utilizes NVIDIA’s 3D Vision Bundle consisting of 120Hz Samsung LCD and stylish Nvidia active glasses for display.

TDVision Systems will also show Full HD 3D content playing on the Mitsubishi home cinema DLP with top quality XpanD active glasses. XpanD is the worldwide leader in active glasses distribution and active theater installations.

Additionally TDVision has partnered with HDI and will showcase the new 46” HDI-Lite Micropol display by HDI sporting high quality polarizer technology, a home-target solution for stereoscopic visualization. Soon TDVision and HDI will present the first full HD laser based TV set with the TDVCodec receiver integrated.
