IMAX Corporation and Warner Brothers Pictures recently signed an agreement that will bring at least 25 Warner Bros movies to the IMAX Experience over the next three years. Arabia 3D will premiere at at the BFI IMAX in London’s South Bank on Monday 24th May in the presence of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, royalty from the Middle East region, as well as Heads of State and VIP guests from the world of film, music, art and industry. All will see the first ever IMAX film about the culture and history of the Arabian Peninsula.
The film will take its audience deserts, past ancient monuments, through the ruins of towering lost cities, hitches a ride on a camel caravan, swoops through a Bedouin tent and even plunges into the violet hues of the Red Sea, to mingle with silvery fish darting through technicolour coral reefs and all in amazing IMAX 3D.

Sony Pictures and the IMAX Corporation recently announced that the upcoming Paul W.S Anderson movie, ‘Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D’ will be released in IMAX 3D worldwide later this year. The 3D zombie movie will be released on September 10th, 2010 and will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of the gigantic IMAX Experience. The Resident Evil movie franchise is based around the popular video game series that has been successful for the last decade. The official synopsis for Resident Evil: Afterlife is featured below. ‘In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice (Milla Jovovich) continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.’ As everyone here at 3DGUY is extremely excited about the release of Resident Evil: Afterlife in 3D, 3DGUY recently converted the movies 2D trailer into 3D, to get a glimpse of just how the movie might look in stereoscopic 3D. The 3D conversion of the trailer is viewable on our YouTube channel here in a variety of 3D formats including side by side and anaglyph. The President of Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures, Rory Bruer, recently announced that, “in 3D, fans of Resident Evil will have a whole new way to enjoy this next exciting chapter, and we’re delighted that audiences will also have the opportunity to experience the film in IMAX 3D at digital IMAX locations, where they will feel like they are virtually in the movie.”

A brand new trailer has hit the internet for Disney’s upcoming Tron Legacy 3D. The 3D movie which is reportedly going to give Avatar a run for its money will hit movie theaters worldwide in 2D, digital 3D and IMAX 3D, December 17th, 2010. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his fathers disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevins loyal confidant, the father and son embark on a life-and-death journey through a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become much more advanced and exceedingly dangerous in comparison to the original Disney movie.

The IMAX Corporation revealed that IMAX screenings of Avatar passed the $200 million mark this weekend. Now in its tenth weekend, Avatar grossed $4.3 million from 179 IMAX theaters domestically. Avatar also took $3.9 million from 84 IMAX theaters internationally. Read the rest of this entry »

The 3D blockbuster Avatar has officially become the largest grossing movie of all time. Last week the film over took Titanic to become the highest grossing film worldwide, however it still hadn’t topped Titanic’s domestic grossing of $600 million. Since 1998, Titanic (another James Cameron epic) had ruled the ranking tables effortlessly, but now the futuristic Avatar has sunk the historical movie to second place.

The epic 3D adventure movie AVATAR is now in its third week of release and it is still taking the world by storm. James Cameron’s revolutionary 3D movie passed the $1 Billion mark this weekend. It also witnessed the 3^rd best weekend of all time and according to estimates, AVATAR grossed around $68.3 million. With AVATAR sitting strong at the top of the box office rankings and raking in over $1 billion in 3 weeks the movie is doing wonders for the 3D industry. 2010 is set to be a great year for 3D with all the exciting news about 3D TV’s and 3D Blu-ray players. Now with AVATAR kicking off the first weekend of 2010 with a huge box office grossing, the demand and popularity of the 3D format is evident and rapidly growing. At the moment AVATAR is guaranteed to have the second largest worldwide gross, the only question is, can AVATAR carry on its success to beat another Cameron film, Titanic, to the number one spot?

According to the IMAX Corporation, James Cameron’s AVATAR set a new record for an IMAX opening this weekend. The IMAX opening for AVATAR over the three day period grossed a massive $9.5 million or 13% of its domestic weekend gross from the 178 domestic IMAX cinemas where it was screened.
